Cultural Hotspots

Downtown Modesto is home to multiple cultural attractions, making for a perfect way to spend a day.

Gallo Center for the Arts: Since 2007, the Gallo Center for the Arts has been host to countless artistic productions ranging from stage plays to concerts and more. With two performance venues, including the Mary Stuart Rogers Theater, you’ll discover a packed calendar of events to enjoy.

The State Theater: Travel back in time to see a show in this historic, 80-year-old theater. The State Theater shows not only indie films and cult classics, but also opens its stage to comedians, speakers, and other engaging performers. No matter the show, you’ll be captivated by this venue’s classic charm.

Seasonal Festivals

Throughout the year, you can enjoy a wide array of rotating festivals and activities just off campus.

Graffiti Summer: Modesto is the birthplace of George Lucas, the renowned director and creator of Star Wars. Before he explored a galaxy far, far away, he directed a film called American Graffiti, which was inspired by his upbringing in Modesto. The Graffiti Summer festival takes place every June and celebrates the 1960s setting of the film, bringing in vintage cars, music, menu items, and more.

Modesto Certified Farmers Market: This farmers market has been a Modesto staple for over 40 years, bringing together a bounty of fresh local crops and unique vendors. Running select Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the year, this free and open to the public event also includes kids crafts, giveaways, and holiday themes as the seasons change.
