Vocational nurses can serve under the direction of a physician or a registered nursing professional supporting vital clinical functions, including:
- Administering prescribed medications
- Basic nursing care
- Monitoring of patient health in long-term care and acute care settings
- Patient data collection
- Performing medical treatments as prescribed
Employment outlook
Between 2012 and 2022, nursing is projected to grow at a faster-than-average rate of 25%. With hospitals continuing to expand job scopes for nurses and other medical facilities increasingly utilizing nurses for procedures once solely performed in hospital settings, 182,900 new job opportunities are forecasted.

Hours of Instruction/Program Length
This program is 1,575 hours and 59 quarter credit hours.
Full time
Classes are held Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends possible, for 51 weeks. Various shift schedules may be required for clinical rotations. See your admissions representative for available class times.
Part time
Classes are held three evenings per week with all-day Saturday clinicals, for 81 weeks. Various shift schedules may be required for clinical rotations. Part time is only available on the Redding campus. See your admissions representative for available class times.
