IOT takes you from the classroom to your career in front-line medical office support through real-world curriculum that combines theory and application to ready you to pursue entry-level opportunities in medical offices, clinics, laboratories, and hospitals.

The Professional Medical Assistant (PMA) program develops your knowledge and skills in both clinical and administrative aspects of medical assisting. Areas emphasized include:

  • Accounting and insurance claims processing
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Electrocardiographs
  • Emergency and surgical procedures
  • Injections
  • Medical office and health care facility management
  • Venipuncture
  • Urinalysis

Student Supplies

Students can take advantage of uniforms and supplies included in the program cost.

The program cost also includes textbooks provided to students.

Certifications

IOT always pays initial certification exam fees for the California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA-AC) credential, so you can focus better on your learning and career goals.

Externship

To enhance classroom experiences, IOT incorporates a 160-hour externship into the medical assistant curriculum.

These 160 hours can be completed at an affiliated medical office, clinic, or hospital, and are required for graduation from the Professional Medical Assistant program.

What can I do?

As a graduate of IOT’s Professional Medical Assistant program, you can be eligible to earn your CMA and RMA certifications. Graduates from this program can be prepared to contribute in a broad range of entry-level occupations in the medical field, including Clinical Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, EKG Assistant, Pharmacy Clerk, Hospital Unit Secretary, Radiology Secretary, Medical Biller, Admitting Representative, Medical Receptionist, and Medical Records Clerk.

This program is 860 hours and 47.5 quarter credit hours. Classes are held Monday through Thursday for 40 weeks. An Independent Study component is included. See your admissions representative for available class times.
