Medical Assistant Grad

Request Information

I was recommended to attend IOT from a family member. Needing a career change I decided I would go with her to check out the campus and what they had to offer.

When I went and they told me what programs they had to offer, I decided professional medical assisting is what I wanted to do. The process was very easy and they had financial aid I qualified for which was great!

A few weeks later I had my first day of class. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It had been 10 years since I graduated from high school. I was scared and nervous and honestly thought I may fail. After that first day in the professional development mod, the class I took first, I felt this new confidence inside me I didn’t know I had and it was exciting.

After 5 weeks in that class not only did I have confidence but I set goals for myself that I knew I could achieve. I finished my first mod with an overall grade of 100%.

Shortly into the program I had a turn for the worse in my personal life and ended up getting a divorce. There was a brief moment when I thought I’m not sure I can finish this being a newly single mother and doing this all on my own. That moment was very brief! This school has helped me to look at things in a different way and I took my divorce as a strength instead of a weakness and became even more determined to strive to be the very best I could be.

The support from staff at IOT made it all easier. I believe that IOT really cares about the students and wants each and every one of us to succeed. I had help making a resume and did mock interviews to build confidence out there while looking for jobs. The end of the program we have a 5 week externship where we can put our skills we learned to work and get on the job experience. That was also a great learning experience for me never having worked at a medical office before.

At the end of the 9 month Medical Assisting program I finished on Dean’s List in every single mod and made some great friends along the way. I also interviewed and was offered a job just a few days out of my externship. IOT was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Now I’m able to provide for my son and I. We can live the life we deserve. I also now have a great career helping people which I love.
