IOT’s culinary education program in Modesto can help you explore all aspects of your career in the food service industry. Our state-of-the art equipment in our classroom kitchen allows you to develop a wide, general cache of knowledge and skills in food preparation and presentation. This hands-on training is enhanced by our instructors, many of whom offer 20-plus years of field experience.

Training that transfers to your career

Your culinary training grounds at IOT come equipped with ovens, broilers, a walk-in freezer, demonstration tables and baking ovens to provide culinary students with a learning environment similar to those found in restaurants.

In addition to supplying a personal set of uniforms, IOT provides culinary students with the option of a cutlery or baking set.

What can I do?

As a culinary specialist, the opportunities are highly varied. You can serve in a variety of work settings – from hotels to restaurants – in roles such as:

  • Bread and pastry baker
  • Catering specialist
  • Dessert specialist
  • Institutional and cafeteria baker
  • Short order cook

Hours of Instruction/Program Length

This program is 680 hours and 39 quarter credit hours. Classes are held Monday through Thursday for 30 weeks. Night class is available and starts at 5:30PM to 10:30PM. An independent study component is included for both night and day classes.
