At IOT, you’ll have the opportunity to train with experienced instructors who can prepare you to take the state NCLEX-PN licensure exam. After passing the exam, you can become a California licensed vocational nurse and go on to work settings like hospitals, physicians’ offices, and outpatient care centers.

A major component of your training at IOT is hands-on experience. During the Vocational Nursing program, you’ll have the chance to practice some of the same day-to-day responsibilities you’ll perform in the field. As a student, you’ll learn to:

  • Provide basic nursing care
  • Collect patient data
  • Perform medical treatments as prescribed
  • Administer prescribed medications
  • Monitor patient health in long-term care and acute care settings

Hours of Instruction/Program Length

This program is 1,575 hours and 59 quarter credit hours. Classes are held Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends possible, for 51 weeks. Various shift schedules may be required for clinical rotations. See your admissions representative for available class times.
